Les and Reva Schuetz moved from their home of 45 years at the end of May, 2008. Since then, Friends of McFarland Parks has been conducting a survey of McFarland residents, business owners, and classroom teachers, asking for their respective ideas and suggestions regarding the future development of the the Schuetz property. As of Aug. 22, 138 respondents have completed a survey. If you haven’t done so yet, you can find both survey links on the Friends website.
Thursday, October 18th, 2007, the Board of Directors of the Madison Community Foundation voted to award the Friends of McFarland Parks $50,000. toward the purchase of the Schuetz Parkland. The Friends have given the $50,000. grant to the Village. The closing is scheduled for March 31, 2008. We owe the Madison Community Foundation a huge debt of gratitude for their generosity. Their remarkable gift reduces McFarland’s share of the purchase to $149,297.
Monday, Feb. 26th, the entire Village of McFarland won a huge and history-making victory. With a 5 to 2 vote, the Village Board exercised the option to purchase the Schuetz Parkland. It will now belong to McFarland - forever! Congratulations to the YES voters, the petition-signers, the volunteers, the one hundred or so who attended the meeting, and the many who spoke during the public appearances. Most of all, thank you to Les and Reva Schuetz. Her dream was realized last night.
